Hello again!

First of all, huge apologies for the recent hiatus in Old Made activities, in my defence I’d like to say that I had tons and tons of stuff ready to go up, but then a cheeky fox broke into my house and decided she liked it all so much she’d steal it all away, and there is now some very finely dressed wildlife roaming around Harlesden.

So, extremely poor wild animal based excuses aside, I should say that while the website has been quiet, I certainly haven’t. I’ve been doing a few bits and bobs for friends (a little green riding hood cape for Ellie, and a pair of very classy dresses for Jaccuzi Suzy amongst others), doodling away at new designs, and falling in love with some gorgeous fabrics. After being chained to my sewing machine for what feels like forever, I’m pleased to say that the fruits of my labour are finally ready! Pictures will follow later on this evening, but for now I thought I’d tickle your fancy with a few of my doodles that have made it into finished designs….

Old things

Hello everyone,

I'm sorry I haven't been updating much - my time seems to have been in great demand as of late! There have been many evenings filled with wine and much laughter, and even a weekend spent in the green isle, but fear not, it hasn't all been fun and games. Some of that time has been spent huddled over the sewing machine, (not that I don't consider that fun - in fact I've been so keen to get sewing I may have feigned illness in order to have an evening to myself!) and I will have two new Made pieces to put up here shortly. But, first things first - here, finally, are some of the Old pieces that I've come across. These are a few of my jumble sale treasures; the dresses are loose and floaty, perfect for summer, and the little peach jacket and striped shirt are perfect little cover-ups. All items are £10 and they can be either be taken as seen, or I am more than happy to take a dress up/in, if you prefer.

Lots of love,

Amy

Anna Cloak

This is a wrist-length cloak with a hood and button fastening at the neck. The fabric is brushed cotton - it's quite heavy and has a lovely soft moleskin feel to it. I've lined it in silver - it's very reflective and almost looks liquid when contrasted with the dark of the navy. The length lends itself to a heavier fabric, but you could really play around with the colours - a wool tartan would look amazing.

Katie Dress

This is made from acetate, with a very cute flying duck print, but could be adapted to almost any fabric. It's fitted at the waist, and is fastened with navy blue ribbons at the waist and neck. This design sits well above the knee, but could look very sweet sitting at the knee or just below, or even with an underskirt if you're feeling fancy!

Some progress!

What a weekend! Not only was there glorious weather, but glorious shopping to be had. On Saturday I made the perilous journey from west to east London in search of a vintage jumble sale - I had heard tales of these wondrous events but had yet to behold one with my own eyes. It did not disappoint! After half an hour or so of queuing, we were ushered upstairs and given the choice of a medium bag or a large bag. I chose large, naturally. We were then free to rummage to our hearts content, and fill the bag with whatever we could find. Any of you who have seen the Friends episode where Monica is buying her wedding dress will have some idea of the atmosphere in the room. Indie girls with their tiny shorts and bleach blonde crops were fighting each other over peter-pan collared tea dresses, while the boys in impossibly skinny jeans tussled over yet another denim shirt. It was great fun! I managed to fill my large bag with a mixture of dresses, jackets and belts, and fingers crossed I've made a couple of good finds! The best of the crop will be up here shortly.

In other news, the 'Made' side of things is coming along nicely - I'm playing around with a new dress idea all of my own, the toile has turned out pretty well, so just need to pick some fabric now. I will put up some more pics this week of my sample pieces, from which point I will be open to all orders!

Exciting times!

Lots of love,

Amy

A beginning.

Hello everyone,

Welcome to my new blog and shop!

Old Made is a new project of mine, where I’m hoping to combine the best vintage pieces that I find on my wanders around, with bespoke one-off pieces that are created with my own bare hands.
I’ve always had a passion for vintage – I love the thought that, however old it may be, someone somewhere has already loved it, it has already made someone feel beautiful and happy. The fact that by buying vintage you get to continue that legacy is wonderful to me. Of course, there’s also the added incentive that it’s highly unlikely that someone else will be wearing it too! It’s that search for individuality that spurred me on to making my own clothes. There’s just something so satisfying about wearing something where everything about it was your choice – the fabric, the fit, the neckline, the length – everything!

And so, my hope is to pass on some of the joy that I get from discovering one-off vintage pieces, and having something that was created specifically for you. On this site you will be able to see and buy gorgeous ‘pre-loved’ garments, and sample pieces from my own collection that you will be able to order to be custom made to fit you. You can even choose the fabric if you wish!

So go and have a look around, and hopefully you’ll see something, old or made, to brighten up your day.

Lots of love,

Amy
